While Nissan is headquartered in Japan, the company sold its first automobile in the U.S. in 1958 and opened its Smyrna, Tennessee vehicle assembly plant way back in 1983! Over the past 40 years, the Smyrna plant has become one of the highest-volume vehicle assembly plants in North America, with a capacity of 640,000 vehicles annually. It has produced a total of over 14 million Nissans since its opening.
