Cube Named As an IIHS Top Safety Pick

The 2010 Nissan Cube has earned the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety's Top Safety Pickaward for 2010.For the first time, good performance in a roof strength test to measure protection in a rollover is required to win. Top Safety Pickrecognizes vehicles that do the best job of protecting people in front, side, rear, and now rollover crashes based on good ratings in Institute tests. Winners also must have electronic stability control, which research shows significantly reduces crash risk. This is the second time the Institute has tightened criteria since announcing the first recipients in 2005.

About the 2010 Nissan Cube

The 2010 Nissan Cube sees no major changes after its debut late in the 2009 model year. Cube is a subcompact 4-door wagon. It comes in four trim levels: 1.8, 1.8 S, 1.8 SL, and top-line Krom. The sole engine is a 122-hp 1.8-liter 4-cylinder engine borrowed from Nissan's compact Versa. It teams with a 6-speed manual or continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT). The base model and the S come with the manual gearbox. The CVT is available on S and is the only transmission offered on SL and Krom. Available safety features include ABS, traction control, antiskid system, curtain side airbags, and front side airbags. Cube's rear seat is positioned slightly higher than in other subcompact cars, and it is able to slide back and forth to accommodate passengers or cargo. A Preferred Package that includes rear-obstacle detection, keyless access and engine start, and a wireless cell-phone link is optional on the SL.
